A few weeks ago, I wrote about what I referred to as an SEO insurance agency news release, which I described as a news release that doesn’t go out to the traditional newswire services, such as BusinessWire or PR Newswire. Rather, it’s a news release that’s placed instead on one of the “free” or nearly free SEO new release websites, like Free Press Release. By the way, here’s a link that lists 50 of these sites: http://www.avangate.com/company/resources/article/press-release-distribution.htm
The point of an SEO news release is not so much to get journalists to cover your story; it’s to get your news release picked up by the search engines. You do this by peppering your SEO insurance agency news release with keywords and using it to acquire some “link juice” by including anchors in the news release that link back to your website.
In this post, I’ll show you how to do this. Even so-called “traditional” news releases are now optimized for websites, so you would use these same techniques regardless of whether you intend to simply post your news release with the free websites (the “SEO insurance agency news release”) or pay several hundred dollars to get it distributed via the wire services to journalists, big media and trade media. Using SEO optimization when you use a wire service just makes your news release better able to reach more audiences.
In the example below, our principal keywords are Ashland Insurance, Medford, Ashland and Southern Oregon. SmartsPro Marketing is also a keyword. You will notice that Ashland Insurance and SmartsPro Marketing are both in the headline. You can’t see it here, but in HTML, the code that’s used to print text on the Internet, headlines are enclosed by H1 header tags, which provide the strongest possible keyword formatting. In the news release, I’ve highlighted the keywords in red. To enhance our keyword strategy, we’ve included the principal keywords in each paragraph. We’ve also included back links or anchors to Ashland Insurance’s and SmartsPro’s websites in strategic places.
And that’s all there is to optimizing your news release. Otherwise, you just follow the normal process of creating a well-written news release, then make sure your keywords are placed in each of the first few paragraphs, especially the first 250 words.
